Photographic Vision Workshop - Paris
- 1,250 US dollars$1,250
Paris has been in my blood for close on 50 years now. I have lived, loved, studied and worked there and although the city has changed a lot, there is still a mysterious, warm and poetic vibe. I invite you to explore this old world gem with a camera and a full heart which will yield images that you probably won't make anywhere else. Together we explore why we make images and how they get/stay in tune with who we are deep down. There will be plenty of assignments and reviews of our individual work and I am confident you will leave this workshop with a better notion of what your genuine, authentic, creative task is and how to go about its realization. Before the beginning of the workshop I will ask you to send me a collection (up to 12 images) of your work, whether it's a coherent portfolio or a selection of “best of”. I will also ask to send a few images that inspire you and that you wish you had taken yourself. We get together in our “class room” (mostly cafes) in the morning and evening for some lively conversation about and review of our day's work. Most of the day will be spent shooting and editing. It will likely be a beautiful and exhausting experience. I don't know about your shooting patterns but I am usually out there early mornings or after dark. I also love shooting in the rain and fog. But that's just me and you will march to the beat of your own drum. I recommend individual exploration instead of traipsing around the place in a distracted group. This workshop is for all levels since it is not about technique but VISION. You are welcome to use any device for your image making, whether it is a phone or the latest, fancy DSLR model. You will need a laptop and one or two thumb drives, that's all. Apart from that I recommend bringing an open mind, open heart, sense of humor and a laissez-faire attitude. This workshop is priced at $ 1250, (registration requires a deposit of $ 400 with the remainder due a month before the start of the workshop) which includes only the workshop proper. The students are in charge of all costs for travel, transportation, accommodations, insurance and food. I can help you find good places to stay in the city (hotels or AirBnB). For any interested student I can provide a reading list to get you in the mood ... See you in Paris!
